Mangaluru: Members of the National Student’s Union of India (NSUI) and the Youth Congress jointly staged a protest against Union HRD Minister, Smriti Irani for allegedly lying about her education degrees and the Union government for their inability to take action against few of their ministers, in front of NGO office here on July 4.
Addressing the protesters, District Youth Congress President Mithun Rai said, “Smriti Irani has given false information about her educational qualifications in her affidavits to the EC back in 2004 and 2011. She has betrayed the country. She has to resign from her post.”
“Even after such incidents, Prime Minister Modi is still silent on Irani, Raje, Fadvanis. He has to come out and speak against these ministers,” he added.
NSUI leader Manan said, “She has done an irresponsible act. She has set a bad example to the student community. You cannot produce fake degrees. This is a very wrong move done by our HRD minister. The NSUI is against this act and demands her resignation.”
“Students work very hard and study to obtain their degrees. But she gives money and obtains two degrees. This sends a negative message to our youth,” said Ashith Pereira, NSUI Zone president.
Later, the protesters shouted slogans against Smriti Irani and burnt her posters.
