Mangaluru: A interstate thief was arrested by the Pandeshwar police here on December 30, in connection with the theft case at Milagres Church on July 23.
The arrested has been identified as Alex Surya (29), a native of Bengaluru.
On December 30, when the Pandeshwar police led by Dinaker Shetty while on patrol, near Mahakalipadpu saw a youth running away after noticing them. On suspicion, police constables followed him and succeeded in nabbing him. During interrogation Alex confessed that on July 23, night he had cut the window grills using the hacksaw and decamped with cash, a gold chain and a mobile set. Police have also seized the valuables from him.
According to the CCTV footage, on July 23, at 10:21 pm, a man was seen entering the church compound from behind the office and had decamped with the cash and valuables. The assistant parish priest of Milagres Church Fr Sunil D’Souza filed a complaint in the Pandeshwar police station.
It was learnt that, there were several cases against him in J P Nagar and Madival police stations, Bengaluru and Ernakulam Central Police stations.
