Mangaluru: A Tipper hit an electric pole, damaged a bus-stand and halted after crushing two parked motorbikes at Nanthur here, on April 26.
According to locals, the tipper was parked near the Nanthur bus-stand due to some technical problems.
The traffic police suggested that the tipper be pushed to the side of the road. Once the tipper began moving as a result of the people trying to push it to the side of the road, it gained momentum and those moving it were unable to stop from moving further. The tipper hit an electric pole in its path, after which it damaged the bus stop and ran over two parked motorbikes, fortunately stopping after hitting the side of the nearby hill. If the tipper would have moved to the right side of the road, the result would have been even worse.
Speaking to mangalorean.com, one of the locals said that traffic movement was obstructed because of the parked tipper and some people were pushing the tipper to the side. The road being a slope, the tipper suddenly started to move and no one was able to stop it. Being a Sunday, there were not many people on the road. If the tipper had moved to the right side, it would have been a different story. This is a lesson that parked vehicles should not be moved without the driver and the traffic police should take precautions while dealing with such situations.
A case has been registered in the Kadri Police Station.
