Mangaluru Police Arrest Two for MDMA Trafficking; Significant Drug Seizure Made
Mangaluru: In a significant breakthrough against drug trafficking, the City Crime Branch (CCB) police have apprehended two individuals for their involvement in the transportation and sale of the banned drug MDMA. The operation resulted in the seizure of 23 grams of the substance, valued at approximately ₹1,15,000.
The arrests followed credible intelligence suggesting that MDMA, a contraband drug, was being procured from Mumbai and transported to Mangaluru via Gulbarga for illicit sale to the public, including students. Acting swiftly on this information, police conducted a raid in the Bhangra Kuloor area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Kavoor police station. The arrested suspects have been identified as Sheikh Sikander, 22, from Azadpur in Gulbarga, and Mohammed Taufeeq, 29, a resident of Kavoor.
During the operation, law enforcement also seized two mobile phones and a Suzuki scooter, bringing the total value of the confiscated items to ₹2,10,000. It has been revealed that Sikander procured the MDMA in Mumbai and arrived in Mangaluru by bus from Gulbarga to sell it to Taufeeq, who was responsible for distributing the drug within the city. The duo allegedly aimed to profit from the illicit drug trade, targeting local residents and students.
Authorities suspect that this operation is part of a larger drug trafficking network, with additional individuals still at large. The police continue their investigations to dismantle the entire racket, which has reportedly been established with the intention of leading a luxurious lifestyle. Notably, Sheikh Sikander has a prior criminal record, having been previously charged with murder at the Roja police station in Gulbarga.
The successful operation was executed under the leadership of Police Inspector Rafeeq K. M., with the efforts of PSI Sharanappa Bhandari, ASI Sujan Shetty, and other CCB personnel, all under the guidance of CCB Unit ACP Manoj Kumar Naik. A formal case has been registered at the Kavoor police station regarding the incidents.
