Mangaluru: The mortal remains of retired DySP B J Bhandary were brought to the DK District CRP ground here, on June 2.
IGP of Western Range Amrit Paul, Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, SP Dr Sharanappa, DCP of Crime Vishnuverdhan and many police officers paid their respect to the departed soul.
B J Bhandary (62) died in a road mishap at Brahmavar on June 1. He served as DySP in DK district. He is survived by wife Prafulla who is working in Corporation Bank Mangaluru, son Rohan who is pursuing his post graduation and a daughter Roshni who is also a Corporation Bank employee in Bengaluru.
Speaking to mangalorean.com, IGP Armit Paul said, “B J Bhandary, who went to Udupi to attend a marriage function of a relative, met with an accident. In the mishap, he suffered a broken rib which pierced the lungs leading to his death. It is a very sad incident that Bhandary lost his life. Bhandary was a disciplined police officer.”
IGP Amrit Paul also met Bhandary’s son Rohan and assured to support him, as he is pursuing his MD in Mangaluru.
Speaking to mangalorean.com, General Secretary of Retired Police Officers Association K Manjunath said, “B J Bhandary was elected as president of our association on May 9, 2014. He worked day and night to get justice for retired police officers. After he became the president of the association, he fought for the welfare of the retired police officers. He tried hard to make ‘Aroghya Bhagya’ and canteen facilities available for the retired police officers. On June 1, he came to the office and later left to Udupi to attend a marriage function. We, the members of the association, have lost a great leader who took the lead to provide us justice.”
Later, Bhandary’s body was taken to his residence for cremation.
