Mangaluru: Many movie fans felt that it was like locking the stable after the horse had bolted.

When some fringe outfits blocked the screening of Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Dilwale’ in the multiplexes in the city’s malls and movie-houses elsewhere, the police are said to have watched helplessly.

Protesters barged into the premises, tore the banners and obstructed cine-goers, as a mark of protest against actor SRK’s recent statements on intolerance.

But when the matter got statewide publicity, city police commissioner S Murugan, in a communication, assured that adequate protection would be provided to film exhibitors screening movies. He also convened a media meet to convey the same message.

The commissioner said that cases had been filed against those who indulged in such undesirable activities. He convened a meeting of film exhibitors in the city on Tuesday and gathered their opinions.

The assurances have now been implemented with the deploying of a platoon of KSRP force who have been standing guard at the PVR cinemas at the Fiza Forum mall, Cinepolis at City Centre and Big Cinemas at Big Bazar.

Although the exhibitors are happy about the sense of security, the movie-goers are in for disappointment. The exhibitors are hesitant to screen ‘Dilwale’ in spite of the police cordon around.

They do not want to take any chance, a source said. This does not speak well of the trust the public has in the police.

Dear readers,

Is this the PM Modi’s hand picked ‘smart city’ of Karnataka?

Law enforcement department are forced to give protection when women safety is concern throughout India.

PM Modi celebrating Pakistani Premier birthday bash, Bajrang dal is lookout for bashing innocent. Police is are doing day patrol of movie theater?

Next time in Mangalore you need police protection to get out of his own residence.

Smart city without ‘smart people’. Elected members can’t speak.
