Mangaluru: Senior professor at the department of Kannada of Mangaluru University, Dr K Chinnappa Gowda, has been appointed vice chancellor of Karnataka Folklore University, located at Gotagodi in Shiggavi taluk of Haveri district.
Prof Gowda, after completing his MA at Madras University in 1978, obtained a PhD for his research on Bhoota worship. He has already held different posts in Mangaluru varsity. Besides being a dean, he is also the director of the Dayananda Pai and Satish Pai Centre for Yakshagana Studies. He has served as registrar between 2009 to 2012.
Karnataka Folklore University was established by an Act in 2011, with a specific objective of providing in greater platform in folklore studies, thus fulfilling the long-felt desire of folklorists of Karnataka and to develop Kannada folkloristics on scientific principles.
