Mangaluru: CITU staged a protest against the Union government, for not keeping the promises made during the elections after being in power for one year, in front of the DC’s Office here, on May 26.

Addressing the mediapersons, the district president of CITU Balakrishna Shetty said that before the elections, the BJP leaders assured to bring back the black money from the Swiss bank and credit Rs 15 lakh in the account of every citizen of the country, to eliminate corruption, to bring control over price hike on basic commodities and provide a peaceful life for the farmers. “Modi also assured to bring back the good days (Acche Din) to the country. But now, after one year, the Modi government has failed to keep the promises made to the people of the country before the elections.”

He further said that the farmers have even been cheated by the BJP government through the land ordinance bill. “Modi is not in favour of the poor farmers, but he is pleasing the corporate world by encouraging them to acquire land from the farmers without their consent. Giving false promises of bringing ‘Acche Din’, the BJP came to power but so far there are no ‘acche din’ in the country and they will never come. The black money which the BJP government was supposed to bring back from the Swiss Bank and which Modi had promised to bring once he came to power, has now been forgotten and is not even talked about. If they could not deliver this promise, then why make it in the first place?”

“Modi is pleasing only the corporate world and neglecting the labour class. The BJP government is also trying to cancel the PF, EPF ESI facilities. If these facilities will be cancelled, the labour class will face problems. The BJP government is even trying to bring changes in labour laws to please entrepreneurs,” he said.

CITU leader Vasant Achari adressing the protestors said that the amount of money spent by the UPA government in 10 years was spent by the Modi government in just one year after coming to power by going on trips around the world. He also said that PM Modi now knows more about foreign countries than he knows about ours. “Modi is also aware that the BJP will not come to power again and that is why he is travelling as much as he can with the tax payers money.”

Sunil Kumar Bajal, Jayanti B Shetty and others also spoke on the occasion. An effigy of Modi and his government was burnt after the protest.
