Mangaluru: Public requested to co-operate with Police and District Administration during Hindu Samajotsava

Mangaluru: District Minister In-charge B Ramanath Rai held a press meet at the Police commissioner’s office here on February 18.

Addressing the mediapersons Ramanath Rai said, “On March 1, the VHP is holding Hindu Samajotsava, to organize it smoothly the district administration has taken all the precautionary measures. Three months ago when the Samajotsava was held in Puttur, some untoward incidents took place which led to communal disturbances in the district. To avoid any untoward incidents from taking place in Mangaluru, the police department has taken special measures”.

He further said, “Additional police force will be deployed and CCTV cameras will be installed in sensitive areas and a Sector magistrate will be appointed. In the sensitive areas additional police will also be deployed. To maintain law and order a peace keeping committee will be formed and a meeting will be called. Leaders from all the communities will be invited for the peace committee meeting.”

Hoardings containing sensitive matter will not be allowed. As a preventive measure, the organizers have been requested to conclude the programme before 5:00 pm. The district should keep its good image as DK district is a intellectuals district all citizens should join hands with the district administration to see that the Samajotsava is conducted smoothly.

He also said that action will be taken against those who deliver hate speeches. We have already had discussions with the Samajotsava committee leaders, they have provided the list of speakers. Anyone violating the law, action will be taken against them.

Police commissioner S Murugan said that whenever there are communal disturbances police have brought the situation under control and this time also we will take all the measures to avoid any untoward incidents from taking place. On February 27 and 28, we will invite leaders from all communities for the peace meeting. He requested the public to co-operate with Police and the Administration to prevent any untoward incidents during the Hindu Samajotsava.

IGP Amrit Paul, Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim and SP Dr Sharanappa were also present.
