Mangaluru: The city and district were going through a sultry spell or hot and humid weather over the past month.

In between, however, there were sporadic showers in the suburban areas and a few taluks, which brought relief, temporary though.

On Friday, rains lashed Puttur town and Kadaba, Kallugudde, Mardala, Kodimbala, Kaniyoor, Savanur, Koila, Ramakunja and surroundings in the evening. In Kadaba, a tree fell across the road and affected the traffic.

Roofs of some houses have been damaged in the strong wind and rain. Some trees in a private property also crashed and fell to the ground. In farms, areca and rubber trees too crashed to the ground. Power supply too was affected in some areas.

Suburban areas of Sullia taluk like Subrahmanya, Yenekal, Panja, Guttigar, Madappadi, Sampaje, Peraje and other places experienced heavy showers.

Although Mangaluru city remained unaffected by the rain on Friday, it obtained a fringe benefit in the form of some resultant relief. Temperature and humidity levels slumped suddenly by sunset. Cool breeze could be felt in the open spaces.

On Saturday morning too, the weather in the city has not been as harsh as earlier days.
