Mangaluru: Ramakrishna Mission Holds 27th Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan

Mangaluru: 27th Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan was carried out by Ramakrishna Mission in P M Rao Road – GHS Road – Sharavu Temple area on the 22nd November 2015 from 7:30 am to 10:30 am. Dr Subramanya Padyana, Dean, Alva’s Ayurvedic Medical College, Moodbidri and Ramesh Mallya, well-wisher of the Ashram flagged off the 27th drive in the presence of Swami Jitakamanandaji, Adhyaksha, Ramakrishna Math, Mangaluru.

About 120 volunteers, devotees and well-wishers of the Ramakrishna Mission, NSS students & Staff of Alvas Ayurvedic Medical College, Moodbidri and Students of Ganapathi College, actively participated in the Abhiyan.

Volunteers were divided into four groups under the guidance of Capt. Ganesh Karnik. A team under the leadership of Dr Sumanth Shenoy cleaned the Sharavu Temple premises. Second team led by Dr Aditya Bhat cleaned the P M Rao Road. Other two teams led by Capt. Ganesh Karnik cleaned the GHS Road and nearby areas.

The road leading from KS Rao road to Sharavu Temple was piled up with lots of garbage and the grass and weeds were encroaching on the road too thus creating nuisance to pedestrians and motorists. This was even marring the beauty of the city. This was removed and cleaned using JCB under the guidance of Dilraj Alva by Umanath Kotekar and others.

The old railing on GHS Road was repainted giving a new look. Several other small works like clearing the weeds using the grass cutting machine, removing posters from the compound walls, clearing the construction debris from the footpaths, clearing the sand accumulated on the roads etc. were taken up by the volunteers thus helping in the public utility.

Worn out and faded out direction boards were repainted and were given a face lift helping the newcomers in PM Rao Road and GHS Road.

Rathnakar Bannady of Ganapthi PU College, Dr Satish Rao, Katyayini Rao, Suresh Shetty, Shubhoday Alva, Sheshappa Amin, Mahesh KB, Sridhar Shetty and other eminent persons actively took part in the Cleanliness drive under the aegis of Ramakrishna Mission.

MRPL, Principal Patron of the event sponsored the drive.

Great job by Raamakrishna folks. Where are other institutions ? Can they stop thinking about politics for once and do something to make our city look better? Looking at the amount of filth in Mangauluru, I wonder what our elected representatives are doing? We are a third-world nation because we act like one!! This has nothing to do with technology or money. This is purely the result of our third-world mindset where we can walk the same streets without doing anything but criticize Shree Modiji who tried to motivate our country to do something about it.

It is a diversionary tactics by Modi to de-focus Gandhi Jayanthi Celebrations as the “Martyrs Day”, so that in a short time Gandhi would be forgotten and brooms would be remembered.
