Mangaluru: The 22nd Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan was carried out by Ramakrishna Mission in Jyoti Circle – Balmatta – Collectors Gate area on October 11, 2015 from 7.30 am to 10.30 am. The local MCC Corporator Sri A C Vinayraj and Prof Ramanath B, Principal, Govt Degree College, Balmatta flagged off the drive in the presence of Swami Jitakamanandaji and MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik.
More than 450 volunteers, devotees and well-wishers of the Ramakrishna Mission, NSS students and Red Cross members of Govt Degree College, Balmatta, Students from Govt First Grade College, Car Street, few students from Sahyadri Engg. College participated in the drive. The volunteers were organized into 10 groups who later cleaned Balmatta Govt College campus, Jyothi Circle, around KMC Hospital, Near Collectors Gate and Arya Samaj Road.
Several Posters that were stuck to the compound walls of the Govt College and entrance gate were removed and the walls were painted giving a new look. The grills of the college gate were also painted thus giving it a facelift.
The construction remnants and materials that were dumped since long near the collectors gate and the Balmatta College were removed with the help of the JCB and the ground was levelled thus giving space for public utility.
The direction board on the Arya Samaja road which was worn out was repainted and given a facelift.
Volunteers also distributed the Swacch Mangaluru Awareness pamphlets among the residents and public of the Balmatta and Collectors Gate area.
This Abhiyan was preceded by Swacch Manas programme held in the Ramakrishna Math on the 10th October evening. Swami Jitakamanandaji, President of the Math addressed about 80 students assembled about the different dimensions of Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan after briefing them about the Ashram, its activities and its role in the Swacch Bharath Abhiyan.
Sri Mahesh KB, Sri Sheshappa, Prof Vinita Rai, Smt Shashikala, Prof Radhakrishna, Sri Shubhoday Alva, Sri Umanath Kotekar, Sri Suresh Shetty and other eminent people participated in the drive.
MRPL, Principal Patron of the event sponsored the drive.
Dear readers, Among the two pictures posted with this article includes a BJP student ABVP sticked bill on the walls and scribbled the organisation name in red. Does PM Modi ‘Swachh Bharat abhiyan’ is ignored by its own youth cell or it the campaign is merely photoshoot? Where are all those BJP cadres who are showed up with ‘Jaddus’? Vivekananda declared the food habits of Vedic people in general and Brahmins in particular and admitted about their beef eating for food. May imaginary God bless these volunteers!! It’s sad to see how people are still throwing garbage everywhere including ABVP posters!! Unbelievable!! Even more depressing is people like our ‘taqiyya’ expert Sharia Shaikh who takes every opportunity to blame sanathana groups even when they do good work!! Tribal fantasies are dangerous to humanity for more than one reason!!!
