Mangaluru: Sajida (21), daughter of Ahmed residing in Purushakodi near Poopadikallu, had been given in marriage to Azharuddin (27), son of Siddiq of Jumadigudde in Farangipet some years ago.

She lived with her husband and two children Mohammed Hafeez and Anas in a rented house in Darkhas in Kairangala Mudipu, where Azharuddin worked as an auto driver.
He had stopped working for some time now and was suspected to have taken to narcotics or alcohol. He used to harass his wife and also beat her up.
On Friday morning, she went to her mother’s house which was nearby to pour out her woes. Her mother pacified her and Sajida returned home after some time.
After a short while, Azharuddin reportedly phoned her mother to informed that Sajida had tried to commit suicide at home and that he had got her admitted to a hospital in Deralakatte. By the time they visited the hospital, she had already breathed her last.
Sajida’s parents complained to the Konaje police about it and they have arrested Azharuddin on charges of harassment and abetment to suicide.
He looks mentally ill.
