Mangaluru: Even before the aftershock of a techie’s misadventure of making hoax bomb calls to Bengaluru airport, which resulted in daylong alert and fear and losses in crores could settle down, another similar incident took place on Monday.
The control room of the Kempegowda international airport received a call saying that a bomb had been placed in the central part of the city. The police and security agencies found it to be a hoax call. The call was traced to have originated from Mangaluru.
Having pinpointed the person, a police team arrived from Bengaluru and arrested Reginald (64), a resident of Jeppinamogaru in the city. He was interrogated by them.
What motivated him, a senior citizen, to make the hoax call is not known. Informed sources said that he might be having some psychological issues or wanted to get cheap thrill.
Many residents recalled an episode of over two decades ago, in which a resident of Mangaluru, during a flight from Bengaluru, had played a hijack drama by threatening the cabin and flying crew.
