Mangaluru: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel held a press meet at the BJP office here on January 27.

Addressing the mediapersons Nalin Kumar Kateel said that the farmers in the DK district are facing problems due to the Kumki land. During the elections, the congress party had released the manifesto and promised to give the Kumki land to the farmers. But after the elections the revenue minister refused to give the Kumki land to the farmers. In 2013, when the Congress came to power in the state, we thought that the farmers will get the ownership rights over the Kumki land.

But the Minister for Revenue V Srinivas Prasad sent an affidavit to the court not to grant the ownership rights to farmers over the ‘Kumki’ lands. In the verdict the Court gave the rights to the Deputy commissioner to decide on the ownership rights over the Kumkiland.

If the congress government is with the farmers, they should have given the ownership rights to the farmers over the Kumki land. In 2013 we have issued a notification of providing ownership rights to the farmers over the Kumki land but it did not come into force. We are not trying to gain political mileage from this issue because CM Siddaramaiah has given us enough opportunities to win the ZP and TP elections. Our intention is to help the farmers in getting the ownership rights over the Kumki land.

If the farmers will not get the ownership rights BJP will intensify its agitation and a public awareness campaign will be organized on February 6, in Puttur.

When asked about the Yettinahole project Kateel said that we have given a small break because of elections but before the elections we will go to Kolar and discuss the issue with the people of Kolar. Now the people of Kolar have also understood that they will not get water from the Yettinahole project.

President DK BJP Pratap Simha Nayak, Krishna J Palemar, Lalaji Mendon, CaptGanesh Karnik, Sulochana Bhat, Sanjeeva Matandoor and others were also present.

Phony people like Nalin and Ivan have been in the politics for a long time in the state so they almost certainly would have known about the Yettinahole project when the previous BJP government was pushing it through behind the scenes. If they were unaware of it that means they were not keeping in touch with the political affairs of the state and are unfit to be in their current job/role. Now both of these are acting innocent and shedding crocodile tears in front of the public because they do not want to lose the popularity. People are too ignorant.… Read more »
