Mangaluru: The Executive Director of Dr Shivarama Karantha Pilikula Nisargadhama, SA Prabhakar Sharma held a press meet at the Deputy Commissioners Office, State Bank here, on December 22.
Addressing the mediapersons, Sharma said that Pilikula habba will be held from December 24 to 27, at Pilikula. It was co-hosted by Kalkura Prathistana, Mahila Mandalagala Okkuta, Nisarga Foundation and Karnataka Sahitya Academies of Tulu, Konkani, Beary, Kodava and Arebhasha.
President of Tulu Sahitya Academy M Janaki Bhramavar said, “On December 24, we will organize Tulu Parba. ‘Janapada Kreede’ (Folk Games) like coconut hitting, Lagori featuring Dodanna Baremelu of Sullia and other local games will be played. A quiz on Tulu culture and stage programmes like Tulu songs, Janapada Rupaka followed by a magic show by famed magician Kudroli Ganesh.”
President of Konkani Sahitya Academy, Roy Catelino said, “We celebrate the tradition of Konkani speaking people of the region on December 25. Konkani is spoken by people of all religions in the region, but as we celebrate Christmas on December 25, we have decided to keep Christmas as the theme for the Konkani festival.”
Roy further said that Christmas carols will be sung in Konkani, Tulu, Kannada, English and Hindi by Gladson Maben and group. Kuswar and cakes will be sold, Quiz, Christmas crib, Konkani brass band and Christmas ‘Khel’ will be the other attractions. Kuswar was presented to Prabhakar Sharma by Roy Castelino.
President of Beary Sahitya Academy Haneef said, “Beary and Kodava Sahitya Academy will jointly organize Pilikula Habba on December 26. As part of celebrations, Daff competitions, stage programme, tass arebic dance, parekali, Beary Kodava orchestra, kolkali Kodava dance, mehandi competition for ladies and Beary folk games like billis, lagori, baccha and goliyata will be played.”
Karnataka Arebhase Samskriti and Sahitya Academy along with Kalkura Prathistana will jointly organize Pilikula Habba on December 27. Dinky ice cream eating and fireless cooking competitions will be held and other programmes like, ‘Hejje Gejje Ninadolagenuttu’ by Vidhushi Prameela Lokesh and team, Kolata by Maragodu ladies team, Arebashe folk dance and songs, Shobane and Hindi and Kannada film hits will be held.
Dinky ice cream eating competition will be held at 4.30pm on December 27 for children aged between 5 to 12 years. Participants have to produce a photo ID as a proof of age.

Sharma said, “There is no registration fee for participating in any competitions and for the convenience of the people attending the Habba, a free bus facility will be available from Vamanjoor to Pilikula and vice versa on all four days between 3pm to 8pm.”
