Mangaluru: The 22 General Meeting of the DK Zilla Panchayat was held at the Netravathi hall, ZP here on June 9.

Addressing the members president Zilla Panchayat Asha Thimmappa Gowda said that since June 21 has been declared as International Yoga Day, we need to observe this day in our district and work together to make this day a successful one.

The first issue discussed in the meeting was to build houses under the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Scheme. The project director said that all the documents have been provided to the concerned authorities and 1168 applications have been submitted from the Dakshina Kannada district out of which 384 applications were rejected due to incomplete documents, 637 applications were accepted under the scheme and funds have been sanctioned. The officers have been instructed to once again inspect the rejected applications.

The second topic was the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana to all the BPL beneficiaries. In response the Mescom engineer from Kavoor said that under the 11th Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana, in 68 Gram Panchayats electricity has been provided to all the 1065 beneficiaries.

Mescom Engineer from Puttur said that, in Puttur Taluk electricity has been provided to 3564 BPL card holders and in Sullia 2124 BPL card holders under RGGVY. In Puttur the work in all the 67 Gram Panchayats has been completed and 3369 BPL beneficiaries have received power supply. In 40 Gram Panchayats work has been completed and 2091 BPL beneficiaries given power supply.

Mescom Engineer from Bantwal said that distribution of electric connections have been given to 7596 beneficiaries (Bantwal – 2469), Beltangady – 5127).

Providing safe drinking water which is a basic necessity. Under the National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP), to address the major issues like sustainability in Dakshina Kannada, attempts are being made by the government.

The topic of new Appointments of teachers in Rural areas was also discussed. Counselling was held on April 6 for the post of Headmistress and Headmaster, but no appointments are made and the posts are still vacant. DDPI assured to fill the vacant posts as soon as possible. In Mangaluru North 3 additional teachers have been appointed. In Mangaluru South 33 teachers, Bantwal 14, Puttur 22, Beltangady 6, Moodbidri 2 and Sullia 22. Total 103 new teachers have been appointed in Dakshina Kannada. The DDPI has also instructed to take strict action if the cluster level teachers will not take up the lessons in the class. In the meeting which was held on March 17, all the Zilla Panchayat members have been instructed to check the number of children and the teachers in the schools.

The Government Wenlock hospital and Yashashwini registered Hospitals are refusing to treat the poor patients under the Suvarna Arogya Chaithnya Scheme. The DHO of DK district said that the Scheme ‘Suvarna Arogya Chaithnya’, should be introduced in every school and the helpline should be displayed. The benefits of Suvarna Arogya Chaithnya Scheme should be conveyed to the parents.

There was a commotion between the Congress and the BJP members during the meeting on the “Sleeping minister issue” disrupting the meeting for sometime.

ZP CEO Sreevidhya, MLC Ivan D’Souza and others were also present.
