Mangaluru: Until last evening I thought that only the children belonging to the Rich/NRI/high-class families were smart and talented in co-curricular activities-but I was wrong. Looking at the school children belonging to Vidya Jyothi School-Jyotinagar run by the Apostolic Carmel nuns, where 99% of them come from the slum society, unleashing their hidden talents during the the Annual School Day proved that they too have talents and can entertain the crowd. The show was marvellous and glittering-and was a non-stop extravaganza of children performances which lasted for nearly four hours. Thanks to Sr Melissa-Principal of Mount Carmel Central School-Mangaluru for introducing me to this school which located in the outskirts of the city- I was very much touched by the respect these children from the low-class society showed towards me. Thank you-I appreciate your kind gesture.
Talk about Annual School Day-this one was much more than that- it was a Showbiz, a Extravaganza, a Entertainment, a Mega Nite- all full of music, dance and act- and the students enthralled the audience with their hidden talents which was spectacular and mesmerizing. These students went beyond their capacity and to the maximum in entertaining the audience which was predominantly a mixture of rich people, entrepreneurs, businessmen,well-wishers, nuns, laborers, low-wage workers, and majority of them hailing from the surrounding slum areas. The children gave their best performances to please the management, teachers, staff and especially their parents who applauded them throughout the programme.

Excellent write-up by Mr Alfi Dsouza-which has spread the message that even children from slum/low-class families can also fair good and show their hidden talents.
May God bless these AC nuns who are taking care of these kids irrespective of caste or creed. The saffron activists should know about this.

That’s right Sr. Rose.
I was told by quite a few teachers,”You will not amount to anything greater than walking behind the ploughing water buffaloes.”!
A word of encouragement with empathy can alter the lives of less fortunate. Thanks to Fr. Alfred Roche.
