Mangaluru Smart City-Way To Go..Way To Grow! 45 Projects-8 Wards-1628 Acres at Rs 2000.72 Crores

Mangaluru: At a interaction meeting organized by a newly formed NGO ‘PEOPLE’S FORUM’, Mangaluru, on Thursday 16 January 2020, the Managing Director of Mangaluru Smart City Ltd Mohammed Nazeer briefed about the development of Mangaluru Smart City, where he said, “Mangaluru Smart City projects was officially launched on 6 April 2017, and on 26 April 2017, an agreement was made with three firms to undertake various projects of Smart City. Under the Smart City, there are 8 Wards included, namely Court Road (Ward no 40); Central market ( 41), Bunder (Navayath)-ward no 44, Port ( 45), Cantonment ( 46), Mangaladevi ( 56), and Bolar ( 58)”.

He further said, “There are 45 projects to be completed in these 8 Wards ( comprising of both, ADP and Pan City projects) of 1628 ares, and the total cost for the projects is Rs 2000.72 Crore. There are 13 Pan City Projects and 32 Area Development Projects, out of which two projects have been completed, namely-The Clock Tower; and installation of LED lights at 26 Government buildings, under ADP. The S C Fund- Area Based-Rs 680.62 Cr; Pan City-Rs 263 Cr -Total : Rs 943.62 Cr; PPP Funding- Area based: Rs 246.08 Cr, Pan City- Rs 557.28 Cr, Total: Rs 803.71 Cr; Convergence Fund- Area Based- Rs 98.11 Cr, Pan City-RS 155.28 Cr, Total : Rs 253.39 Cr. The grand total for the projects comes to Rs 2000.72 Cr”.

Mohammed Nazeer through a audio video presentation narrated the ongoing projects and all the developments under the MSCL, and requested for citizens cooperation and support in completing these projects in time, and without any problems. Other members present during the interaction were- Er Arun Prabha- General Manager (Technical)-MSCL; Ganesh- Executive Engineer-MSCL; Chandrakanth-Executive Engineer,MSCL; Ravikumar-Executive Engineer, MSCL; Ravishanker-Executive Engineer, Mangaluru City Corporation; Midhunraj SN- Junior Urban Planner-MSCL, among others. Members representing People’s Forum, Mangaluru were- G K Bhat, Rohan Siri, Ashok Mendonca; Padmanabha Ullal, Roopan Fernandes, Alfie D’souza and Aloysius Albuquerque.

Additional points discussed during the interaction between members of People’s Forum, Mangaluru and Governing Board Members of MSCL were –

1. Open drain with sewer discharge into rivers or water front banned from April 1st, What is MSCL’s view?
2. Newly constructed road drains do not have rainwater harvesting facility! Is it not Smart Approach?
3. Newly constructed footpaths & Vehicle Parking Slots are encouraged for utilization by street vendors than preventing. What are the measures to reinstate the intent ?
4. Bus Stand Built not been Utilized since bus cannot approach it or people cannot sit or sunlight shade not effective.
5. Smart Bus Stand Design: Bus design was finalized after a contest. What were the other designs shortlisted before finalizing the current design for construction? Why scrutinized designs were not published for public opinion?
6. Concrete work at Arya Samaj Road and Bridge road, what is provision done, is there provision for UGD, Streetlight, Gas line, Cable line, Wifi, parking footpath etc.
7. Water front Project what is the time line, whether NOC from CRZ obtained, what is max Flood limit calculation done, if bridge leakage or at emergency
8. RTO road, what is retro fitting planned, Underground pathway does it have Shopping area, what is precaution take for Flooding during rainy season, lighting and air circulation
9. Upgrading of Kadri park what is start and end time. what kind of recreational facility for kids and adults, physically challenged are Included?
10. Multi-level parking building at Hampankatta what is progress, why more parking and charging area not been planned
11. Bus Stand and interlink connectivity hub at pump well progress and Design status
12. At Nantoor – In view of concrete paving of junction, why we have failed to understand the requirement of overpass flyover?
13. what is the provision available in the current design which is under construction for utilities alongside the drain for underground natural gas pipeline for domestic utilization?
14. Include smart traffic signals on all junction/circles for smooth traffic flow.
15. Formation of coordination committee of all different govt agencies at planning and design stage to facilitate smooth execution of project.
16. Upgrading Wenlock hospital as super speciality hospital with multi storey parking facility.
