Mangaluru: SP Dr Sharanappa Re’cycles’ Childhood Memories with ‘Pedal’ Power!

Mangaluru: The city has a vibrant group of cycling enthusiasts called Mangaluru Bicycle Club (MBC).

Some mediapersons from the city too are its members. The club-members observe the second Saturday of the month as Car-free Day.

In keeping with this principle, journalist Anilkumar Shastry, who works for an English daily, had arrived at the office of the district’s superintedent office on Saturday, Feb 13.

When SP Dr Sharanappa spotted the bicycle, he appeared to have been fascinated by it. Maybe inspired by his childhood memories, he thought of trying a hand – or his feet – at riding it.

Otherwise known as a tough cop, perhaps he needed a channel for stress-busting. He took a ride on the ground in front of his office much to the appreciation of the media community and his subordinates.

The members of the Club too were happy that the SP sent out a strong message to promote cycling as the means to good health and to reduce pollution caused by toxic fumes from automobiles.
