Mangaluru: The Department of Commerce, St Agnes College (Autonomous) organized a day-long Inter-Collegiate Workshop on Personality Development – Persona with the theme of “Learning To Live Better” at the Conference hall, here on September 11.
The objective of the workshop was to educate and empower the young B.Com graduates on various soft skills which are essential not only to boost the overall personality but also to facilitate them to find a better job in the corporate world.
The programme began with an invocation. Staff coordinator of SACCSA Sofia welcomed the gathering. Former HOD of Psychology department of St Agnes College, Prof Elsie Tharien inaugurated the workshop by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries.
In her inaugural speech Prof Elsie enlightened the participants on being aware of one’s strengths and weaknesses, the power of the brain, continuous assessment of self esteem, not to be influenced by negativity but to instill the positive attitudes in life and work hard towards the fulfillment of their ambition in life.
Principal Sr M Supriya AC in her presidential address appreciated the participants for availing the opportunity provided by the department of Commerce on improving one’s personality skills and said that the skills learnt should be imbibed as a part of life’s journey and should be applied wherever possible to make the world a better place to live in.
Dr Devi Prabha Alva, HOD of Commerce oriented on the objectives of organizing the workshop by highlighting the various technical sessions of the workshop. She also narrated the process of training the final year B.Com students as the resource persons of the day’s workshop.
The participation in the workshop was open only to the final year B.Com students of Government First Grade Colleges of the region, other than St Agnes college students so as to enable them to improve their skills on communication, leadership, interpersonal relationships, facing job interviews etc.
There were 183 final B.Com students from Govt. First Grade College Kavoor, Govt. First Grade College Haleyangadi, Govt. First Grade College Bantwal, Government First Grade College, Balmatta, Sacred Heart College, Madanthyar and St Agnes College, who took part actively in all the deliberations of the workshop.
Secretary of SACCSA Fazana Banu compered the programme. Vice-president of Commerce Mayolla Nazareth delivered the vote of thanks. Vineetha and Sharath Kumar the assistant staff coordinators of SAACSA were also present.
