Mangaluru: The newly elected Mayor of Mangalore, Jacintha Alfred and the president of Mangalore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) Haji Ibrahim Kodijal were felicitated at a function held at St Aloysius Higher Primary School here on Wednesday, March 18.
Receiving the honour, Mayor Jacintha Alfred said that providing basic facilities for Mangaloreans would be her first priority. She also added that she would work for the poorest of the poor in her capacity as Mayor of Mangalore.
In his address, MUDA President, Ibrahim Kodijal invited the students to be good human beings. He reminded the students that every religious text, be it Hindu, Christian or Muslim, called upon their followers to be good Hindu, Christian and Muslim. Recent developments in Mangaluru such as moral policing were a blot to the communal harmony that this place was known for, he added.
In his presidential address, Rector of St Aloysius Institutions, Fr Denzil Lobo called upon the outgoing 7th standard students to be focussed on their goal. He said that they must always keep the goal ahead of them, with the guru (teacher) guiding them from behind.
The correspondent of the school, Fr Eric Mathias honoured and felicitated the dignitaries. Headmistress Philomena Lewis, Vice President of PTA Anil Kumar were also present.
