Mangaluru: Two persons have been arrested by the Puttur police in connection with the killing of Jayaram Naik at Kudurepaya on February 9, said SP Dr Sharanappa in a press meet held at his office here on February 13.
The arrested have been identified as Ramachandra Naik (41) and Vishwanath Naik(38) both native of Kodagu.
The incident led in various angles while the police were collecting information about the people who had gone for hunting. The police then found that Vishwanath and Ramachandra had gone for hunting on February 9. At the same time both Ramachandraand Vishwnath were trying to flee to Madikeri. On getting information from reliable sources the police got into action and nabbed both of them at Koinadu Sampaje. During interrogation both accepted the crime.
Police have also seized a rifle, ammunition, torchlight and clothes from their possession. A case was registered under section 302 IPC and Indian arms act 325.
SP Dr Sharanappa further said that in the district there are 17,000 weapons and 9,968 weapons are licensed under the SP limits. I view of the forthcoming elections people have already deposited 9,831 weapons and rest of the weapons will be deposited soon.
SP Sharanappa also said that on February 14 being Valentine’s day, we have strengthened the security and all arrangements have been made to avoid any untoward incidents taking place in the district. He also said that people should co-operate with the police department and no one should violate the law or take law into their hands. If anyone creates any problems strict action will be taken against them.
