Mangaluru: 98 cities have been shortlisted in the first stage of the selection process and these cities stakeholders are currently moving mountains to ensure that their city is among the first 20 cities that will be selected in the second stage of the smart cities challenge. The first edition on sustainable smart cities brought much needed clarity on Indian cities.
Mangaluru, a vibrant city of Karnataka, is a front runner in this contest and is rated amongst the top 20 wealthiest cities of India. Mangaluru is aggressively working on the Smart City proposal and to a great extent needs to qualify for the Prime Minister’s ambitious Smart City Mission under which 100 Indian cities are likely to leapfrog into the next league with modern amenities. The city is now required to formulate its own unique vision and prepare the Smart City Plan in consultation with the citizens and other stakeholders.
In the next 45 days, Mangaluru will invite 50+ national and international experts to visit the port city who will suggest a roadmap for Mangaluru and tune the smart city proposal. Given the above scenario, Mangalore City Corporation is highly focused in educating its stakeholders on the best practices. As a part of the series of educational programmes, Mangalore City Corporation is collaborating with Nispana, a global business intelligence firm, to host its “2nd Edition of Sustainable Smart Cities India” at the Dr TMA Pai International Convention Centre, Mangaluru on the 16th and 17th of November, 2015.
After hosting their very successful first edition in Bengaluru, which brought much needed clarity on how Indian cities can be sustainable, livable, inclusive, safe, resilient and smart, and saw equal participation from government and private stakeholders. The 2nd edition will help Indian cities in the process of getting selected and will provide a platform for stakeholders to interact with experts to fine tune their proposal. This two day premier conference will feature a lot of interactive panel and round table discussions, visionary keynote presentations from national and international experts along with international case studies. There will be a host of solution providers from across the globe showcasing innovative technologies. The motive of this gathering will be to bring in global knowledge and discuss the various concepts of Smart Cities – ranging from PPP opportunities, Smart Governance, Citizen Engagement, Urban Mobility, Healthcare, Smart ICT, Policy making and Smart Environment and more. This will be an ideal platform to network with peers and various stakeholders involved in the development of Smart City project in Mangaluru.
