Mangaluru: The elections to local bodies like panchayats have been announced and they are scheduled to take place at the end of the month.
The last date for filing the nominations – Monday, May 18 – falls at a crucial point. The ruling star or constellation on the day according to astrology is Krittika and the previous day is Bharani.
Whether people in business or public life want to admit in public or not, they at heart always consider these two days – Bharani and Krittika – inauspicious to embark on any new venture and take a major step. The belief is deep-rooted for a long long time. Hence they are being avoided lest they should be star-crossed.
The day of Bharani is May 17, which is a Sunday. Therefore, the candidates for the elections are likely to opt for Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16.
Saturday is normally a busy day being the last day of the week. Therefore most candidates are expected to file the nominations on Friday itself. It should not be a surprise if the offices where the nominations are to be filed get more crowded on Friday than Saturday.
