Mangaluru: Jabbar Katlekad Ismail (32), hailing from Katlekad in Kodagu district, who was fly to Dubai from the local airport, was found possessing UAE dirhams 37,100 in assorted denominations on March 19.
He had arrived at the airport en route to Dubai. When his luggage was checked by the emigration officials, the currency was detected.
The emigration staff informed the customs officials. The passenger was arrested for holding foreign currency without any supporting documents of money exchange.
The value of the currency is equivalent to Rs 6.47 lakh, said the customs officials.
