Mangaluru: MP of Chikkballapur and the former Central Minister Veerappa Moily visited the Lady Goschen construction site to inspect the construction work here on February 21.
After meeting the officials of the hospital and listening to all the problems he spoke to the contractor of the Lady Goschen building and said that the work should continue immediately.
Addressing the mediapersons Moily said that the public sector oil company ONGC has sanctioned Rs 21.75 crore for the construction of the new building for Lady Goschen Hospital which is managed by MRPL. ONGC has already paid Rs 9 crore for the work but the work has been stopped which is not a good sign. He further said, “I have spoken to the contractor to continue the work immediately because the hospital staff are facing problems. There are a number of pregnant women coming for delivery. The contractor is alone responsible for the delay in the construction work”, he said.
When asked what action he will take against the contractor, Moily said that we want to complete the work as soon as possible. We have to see that the work of three floors is completed before July, the contractor has also agreed to continue the work from February 23.
When asked about the delay in payment of Rs 25 lakh, Moily said that the payment of Rs 9 crore has been done and Rs 25 lakh is ready for payment as the bills are under process, stopping the work for Rs 25 lakhs pending for payment is not a good sign.
When asked about the top secret budget papers being leaked, Moily said that it is a matter of serious concern, those who are responsible for leaking the secret will be punished severely.
MLC Ivan D’Souza, former Mayor Shashdhar Hegde, R Ashok, T K Sudheer and Superintendent of Lady Goschen Dr Shakuntala were also present.
