Mangaluru: The Vishwa Hindu Parishat held a press meet at Laxmi Nagar Apartments,PVS Circle here, on October 8.
Addressing the mediapersons, Dinesh Pai Kateel said that the Vishwa Hindu Parishat will not allow the district administration to hand over the crematorium which is used by the Hindus to the Muslims. The crematorium is located at Nandigudda and the Hindus have been using it from more than 500 years. The land covers 2.58 acres under survey numbers 250/2, 251/1 and 252/1. MLA Moideen Bava in his written memorandum to Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim has requested that the land be granted to the Mosque Committee. After getting information about this, the VHP approached the DC and said that the land is used by the Hindus for cremation and the same should not be given to the Muslims.
He further said that the Mosque Committee met the sub-divisional commissioner and based on the rejected application, on Survey number 251/1, 26 cents the land was reserved as a public crematorium. “The land which is granted as public crematorium has tombs of prominent Hindu leaders such as Kudmul Ranga Rao and even the leaders of Brahma Samaja. Hindus mostly reside around the crematorium and there are a large number of Dalits residing there. All the residents of Nandigudda area have strongly objected granting the land to the Mosque Committee. They have not asked the opinion from the residents of the area, but have mentioned that they have published to submit if there is any objection from the people and not received any response from the residents of Nandigudda.”
Recently the assistant commissioner sent a notice to the Mosque Committee and the locals without sending the notice to Dinesh Kateel. “There is a conspiracy to grant the land to the Mosque Committee. If the land will be granted to the Mosque Committee, there may be communal violence in future,” Dinesh warned.
Dinesh Pai demanded that the decision of granting the land to the Mosque Committee in survey number 251/1 should be dropped. VHP will be holding a protest in front of the Nandigudda crematorium. A procession will be held from Attavar to the crematorium on October 11 at 4 pm.
Dinesh Pai also said that VHP condemns dissolving the Commission for Cattle Conservation by the state government. “Since the Congress came to power, chief minister Siddaramaiah has brought anti-Hindu policies. The Commission was formed by the BJP government to help the farmers, and by dissolving the commission, the farmers will face more problems, which will lead the farmers to commit suicide. The government should restore the commission,” he said.
Gopal Kuthar, Jithendra Kottari, Shivanand Mendon and Sharan Pumpwell were also present.

Government might have allotted the land for public burial or crematorium in Nandi Gudda. How ever Majority Christians have their own Cemetery and Muslims have their own Al-Dafin place in Mangalore. But Nandi Gudda is a place synonymous to Hindu Religion, since our child hood. It is wise that our Muslim brethren must not insist an allotment within this area. While building their Mosques they should have provision for the same. Can we imagine Hindu Rudra Bhumi adjacent to Muslim Cemetery. Why Mangalore North MLA Moiddin Bawa is advocating or supporting their demand?? Has he not responsible for North Mangalore… Read more »
