Mangaluru: In spite of regular reports in the media, some women seem to continue wearing expensive jewellery even when not absolutely necessary, or while walking in areas with less human movement.
Janaki of Kerekadu in Kulai on the outskirts, who rolls bidis for income, was on her way from home with her daughter towards a collection centre in Kulai to deliver her stock on Sunday morning.
Around 9-15 am, two young men arrived in a bike and enquired of her the way to Kana. As she was replying to their query, the pillion-rider is said to have snatched a chain made of gold and coral which she wore. The bike sped away on the Kulai-Kana road.
In spite of the sudden shock, she is said to have managed to note the registration number of the vehicle which was given to the Suratkal police.
But the police seemed to have their own reservations since such acts are executed by using stolen vehicles or those with fake number-plates.
