Mangaluru: The members of the Sahyadri Samrakshana Sanchaya were arrested by the police for protesting against the Union Law Minister and BJP leader Sadananda Gowda, at SDM Law College here, on September 4.
Minister Sadananda Gowda who was attending the Mangalore Bar Association programme at SDM Law College was gheraoed by Dinesh Holla along with other activists for the initiative of Yettinahole river diversion at SDM law college premises. When they arrived at the college with black flags, the Barke police arrested all the activists and took them to the police station.
Former CMs from DK district, Sadananda Gowda and Veerappa Moily, are the proponents of the project. Now, there is an outcry from the public to stop the Yettinahole project. Neither the government nor the people’s representatives are listening to pleas of the public. The work is under progress and various organizations have been staging protests at various places. On September 4, the students of the district took to the streets to fight against the continuation of the project and warned the government that they would call for a district school, college bandh.
The Sahyadri Samrakshana Sanchaya has also organized a discussion with the politicians on September 19, to answer 10 questions on the Yettinahole river diversion project. If the politicians will answer all the questions positively, the people of the district will allow the project to continue; if not, the politicians should join hands with the people of DK and protest against this project, stated SSS.
Addressing the mediapersons, Sadananda Gowda said, “The Yettinahole river diversion project was initiated when I was the chief minister of Karnataka. Being the chief minister, it was my duty to solve the problems of the people of Karnataka. Yes, keeping the problems of the people of Karnataka in mind, before implementing this project, I have discussed the issue with the concerned authorities of DK district. I will not change my stand on this project. Now, I am the minister for the Union government. We have to understand the problems of other people because without water, it is not possible to live for long. A man can live without food but it is very difficult to lead life without water. I stand firm with my decision.”
Bad decision to divert the water. Mangaloreans are suffering with very little water supply especially during the dry months. So this will be like adding insult to injury. Sadu Gowda should know better. Moily gulle nari is no better in any case. He is a bhagoda from South Kanara to Chikka Ballapura. Kaayar kahin ka.
There you go!! Moily, Gowda, Lobo, D’Souza, Kumaara – All will say one thing and do something else. As such Mangalore has a serious challenge meeting water demand in peak summer days. As the city grows, the demand is only going to increase. Get ready to live with less water in the coming years. Blame yourself for electing these politicians.
