Mangaluru: The members of the Sahyadri Samrakshana Sanchaya were arrested by the police for protesting against former CM of Karnataka M Veerappa Moily by gheraoing him at the Konkani Langauage and Cultural Foundation, Shakti Nagar here, on Spetemper 12.
Veerappa Moily, who was attending the MOU Signing ceremony of the digitisation of books from the personal collection of Rastrakavi M Govinda Pai at KLCF Shakti Nagar, was gheraoed by Dinesh Holla along with other activists for initiating the Yettinahole river diversion project.
After the programme, when Veerappa Moily was leaving the venue, activists stopped his car and requested him to attend the discussion about the Yettinahole project on September 19. But Moily refused to attend the discussion, stating that he had nothing to do with it and it was not his own project. He also said that he has asked only drinking water for the people of Chikkaballapur to be provided only for four months and that he has not ask for the entire river. He said that the concerned authorities will attend the discussion.
Thereafter, when he got into his car, the protesters raised black flags and shoes. All the protesters were then arrested by the Kankanady police. Earlier, the police had requested the protesters not to show black flags.
