The programme was inaugurated by the MP of Chikkamagalauru Constituency M K Pranesh by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries on the dais. Addressing the gathering M K Pranesh said, “People of Malnad are very good in hospitality, there is a strong bond between Malnad and Mangaluru. In Malnad, there are a number of people from the Coastal districts who have setup their business and have become successful. “Some students Malnad who came to Mangaluru started the Malnad Youth association 14 years ago. while concluding he advised the youth to have a particular aim in life and work hard you achieve it.”

Addressing the gathering Activist M G Hegde said, “I don’t think that this is a youth convention because I see very few youth here. We have the habit of going to the marriage function late, have food, wish the couple and come back. Instead of reaching late to a function we need to learn how to manage our time. We do not need to follow western culture. If any Brahmin comes to our house we need to respect their culture but when we go out from our house we have to think that we all are Indians and we all are one. At home we have to follow our culture, tradition and need to respect others. In regard to the water crisis facing the district and state, we don’t have any objection to provide water to Kolar, but spending 13,000 crore for the Yettinahole project will not serve the purpose and help the people. The Yettinahole project is not a scientific project. We all should join hands and make the government to drop the project. Only corrupt politicians will make money from the Yettinahole project and Kolar will get only the empty water pipelines and not water. At any cost we should retain the western Ghats, he added.

M G Hegde congratulated the youth for their support in fighting against the Yettinahole project.  There is confusion in our education and social system. In the education system we are taking up various graduate courses but at the same time we are facing unemployment. Our country needs 40,000 MBA graduates but we produce 3 lakh MBA. Most of the students are pursuing engineering studies.

He further said that, for any programmes we need to reach the venue on time. Our relationship should be strong with others and need to have discipline in our life. In Sirsi we are seeing many old age homes. Most of the parents expect their child to be like the ATM machines and give them good education. But the children, after completing their education, get jobs and settle in far away places. They do not settle in their hometown.” He advised the youth  not to forget their hometown and not allow it to become old age homes.

Speaking on the occasion Chairman of Malnad Youth Association Santosh N R, said that after completing your education wherever you are come back to your home town and be with your parents. Because they need your support in their old age. If you will be the backbone of your parents you will be blessed. He also said, “When we were young we were hesitant to cast our vote which was our mistake. If we do not cast our vote it is an insult for us. Whoever completes 18 years should cast your vote and elect an able leader for the development of the country”.

Kannada film Actress Manmitha Harish said, “As time passes we mature, we need to work hard in silence and let our success make the noise. We should not boast, once we are successful we should not forget the people who have supported us achieve success. The Malnad association has taught me to be bold without any stage fear. When I was selected as RJ in Radio Mirchi and many people commented that I will not be able perform as RJ. But I took their comment as a challenge. Malnad people are very humble and they are popular for their simplicity, they always welcome people with a broad smile. Because of my smile I was selected in Kenda Sampige, you can win the world with your smile,” she said.

Manmitha said that there may be a lot of hurdles in life but once you reach your goal reveal your story. Speaking about Blood donation camps, she said it is very much important. She recalled her own story when her father needed blood and said that Blood donation camps are very much important at present, such camps should be organized twice a year so that blood will be available for the needy people and lives saved.

Former MYA committee members were felicitated on the occasion. Sub inspector Bunder Police station Madan was felicitated on the occasion. Madan speaking on the occasion said that, we should follow Swami Vivekananda, he is the real inspiration for each one of us. If anyone follows Swami Vivekananda he/she can become successful. Senior Journalist Hassan Nanjunde Gowda also spoke on the occasion. Joint Secretary Chaitra delivered the vote of thanks.
