Manipal: Couple Violate Social Distancing Norms at Wedding Function, 11 Booked

Manipal: The Manipal Police have been registered cases against 11 persons including the bride, groom and their 9 relatives for violating the lockdown guidelines at Duglipadavu, Manchi on April 19.

At the time when the nationwide lockdown is in place amid the threat of COVID-19, a couple in Manchi Duglipadavu near Manipal tied the knot in the presence of several guests on April 19.

The Police have registered FIR against Saleem, a resident of Manchi, Nabeesa Duglipadav, Groom Hasan, Bride Ramlath, Abdul Suhail Kunjibetu, Azharuddin of Badagabettu, Mohammad Ashraf of Manchikere, Shaheed, Bakkas Kunjibetu, Mohammad Shareef and Mohammed Iqbal.

The Udupi Thashildar Pradeep Kurdekar filed a complaint in the Manipal Police station. The family members of the Groom Hasan and bride Ramlath’s held the wedding function in the house of Nabeesa at Manchi, Duglipadav near Manipal. The parents of the couple had organized the wedding function and a crowd of 50-60 persons had gathered at the place despite the lockdown.

After learning about the gathering, the Udupi Tahsildar Pradeep Kurdekar along with other officials visited the spot. The Tahsildar with the help of the Manipal Police took the couple and their parents to the police station. Many attendees fled the spot after seeing the police at the venue. The wedding rituals were nearing the end when the police arrived at the scene.

When the officials reached the spot they found about 60 persons present without following social distance. The bride had not even obtained permission from the DK District authorities to enter the Udupi district.

The Manipal Police have registered a case against 11 persons under sections of the IPC and sections under the Disaster Management Act.
