Manipal:  A woman from Parampalli filed a complaint against the Royal Express Service courier company for cheating her Rs 46 lakh, here on May 7.

One should be very careful about what friends promise on Facebook. A woman lost Rs 46 Lakh after she was lured by a ‘friend’ she had made on Facebook of a expensive Christmas gift.

Matilda deposited the money in various branches and later received calls from two persons who called themselves Nelly Wayne and Augustine Dean’s, asking her for more money. In total, she deposited Rs 46 lakh in three accounts.

According to Matilda Hilda D’Souza wife of Alphonse D’Souza, while working in Israel, met Taylor Mike through facebook and became good friends. During Christmas time Taylor said that he had sent a Christmas gift to her through the Royal Express service. After a couple of days Matilda received a call from the courier company asking her to pay $900 for the gift parcel. Matilda credited $900 to the Royal courier company account, but did not receive any parcel from them.

Matilda again received a call from the courier company asking her to send $2800 to claim her gift. When she paid the amount through moneygram from Israel, the courier company demanded another $3700 which Matilda transferred to Nelly Wayne’s account. Recently when she came down from Israel, she got another call from the courier company asking her to pay Rs 1.4 lakh to release the gift. Matilda again transferred the amount to Augustine Dean’s account. In the process of getting the gift, Matilda so far has transferred nearly Rs 46 lakh to the Royal Express Service courier company account.

Finally Matilda filed a complaint against the Royal Express Service courier company under the Information technology act 2008. The Manipal police have registered a case under the crime section 66(A), 66(D) and 66(C) IT act 2008 and 420 IPC and are investigating the case.
