Manipal: Govt to implement Skill development programmes for ST community – S C Basavaraju

Manipal: Skill development programmes will be implemented for the welfare of scheduled tribes said S C Basavaraju, President of Karnataka Maharishi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation Limited. He was speaking after launching the website of district office of KMVSTDC at the Deputy Commissioners Office, here on August 21.

A proposal for implementing skill development programmes in Karnataka for scheduled tribes has been discussed with the National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation. The corporation has promised to provide funds of rupees 2crore for implementing skill developmental programmes for the youth and the unemployed people belonging to scheduled tribes.

The corporation is also aiming to reach out to the specially abled and widows of ST community. Loan of Rs 25000 per individual will be granted. Three beneficiaries from each legislative constituency will be selected for this scheme. He also said that steps will be initiated for the rehabilitation of Malekudiyas in Kudremukh. There is a demand for the regularization of services of municipal workers who are presently working under temporary basis which will be addressed. The ST community has appealed to the corporation for the construction of a community hall which will also be constructed.

The population of scheduled tribe in the district is 52897 out of the total 1177361 in the state. The corporation has provided rupees 3.92 lakhs for 243 beneficiaries under the self employment programme. 28 beneficiaries have been provided rupees 20.75 lakh under the entrepreneurship programme. Three beneficiaries have been provided rupees 1.05 lakh under the diary farming programme. Thirty beneficiaries are provided rupees 1.50 lakh under the micro credit scheme. 92 beneficiaries have been provided facilities of rupees 97.71 lakh under land purchase scheme. 11 bore wells and 410 opens wells are constructed under the Ganga Kalyan scheme.
