Manipal: Udupi district will witness 22% shortfall of rain said Anthony Emmanuel, Deputy Director and Department of Agriculture Udupi. He was speaking during a review meeting of the projects implemented under the central government funds. The meeting was chaired by Shobha Karandlaje, MP Udupi-Chikkmagluru Lok Sabha constituency at the Zilla Panchayat Udupi here on June 26.
The district is constantly focusing on reaching the target of 45,000 hectares paddy cultivation. 1775 quintals of seeds are stored in the warehouse in which 1500 quintals are distributed to the farmers for sowing. There is also a reserve of 150 quintal seeds in KSC. There is no contingency of seeds and if the demand arises the seeds will be provided. The district has also kept reserve of fertilizers and will distribute it to the farmers. Agricultural equipment’s are also supplied to the farmers to facilitate quality farming, he added.
The construction work of 34 schools under Rastriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) is pending as the contractors have stopped the construction work said an official in his report. 17 crores have been released to the contractors KBR constructions. The KBR constructions have sub-contracted the construction work to local contractors who allege that they are not paid their dues. The official said that a meeting was organized with KBR constructions and the sub-contractors have agreed to start the construction work.
Kangavalli, ZP CEO said that 22,210 toilets were built under Swachch Bharath Mission till March 2015 and additional 2200 toilets are to be built. She also said that the State Government has framed the by-law for the gram panchayat to issue licenses for the construction of building. The new elected body have to discuss the licensing fee with the general public and have to send their by-laws for approval to the Zilla Panchayat.
Shobha Karandlaje said that the Kendriya Vidhyalaya has started its classes from 1-5th and students could enroll. The Principal of Kendriya Vidhyalaya said that the survey work is under progress in Alevoor which is proposed for the construction of Kendriya Vidhyalaya.
Deputy Director of the Horticultural Department said that the excess in amount distributed to the farmers as relief for yellow leaf disease has been collected. 6 farmers out of the 19 have paid back the excess amount to the Tahashildar while notice has been served to others. R Vishal, District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner said that he will serve notices to the Tahashildar to collect the excess amount.
The first phase of multi-village drinking water scheme in Nitte is completed followed with the second phase in Hebri.
MP Shobha Karandlaje said that nurses recruited under NRHM were demanding for the regularization of services. DHO Dr Rohini said that from the last 13 years nurses are drawing salary of Rs 4575 and the matter has been discussed with the government. The deputy director of Animal Husbandry department said that the doctors have completed 8th round of immunization.
ZP CEO Kanagavalli, ZP President Savitha Shivanand Kotian and others were present.
Prior to the review meeting Shobha Karandlaje speaking to the mediapersons said that bus service to interior places will be beneficial to the girl students. Her statement came as a good news for girl students after the murder of Akshatha of Byndoor. She said that a group might be operating targeting the girl students, she urged the police department to investigate on the same.
