The coastal line has spread to 350 km and after the Mumbai terror attacks, a stringent vigil is kept on the waters to prevent any surprise or untoward incidents. At times fishermen also face the consequences at sea and the coastal security force plays a vital role in the rescue operations. The department coordinates with the Indian Navy, Ports, and Coastal Guard in carrying out effective operations. Fishermen play a vital role in alarming the coastal security force on any suspicious movements of boats in the sea.
Fishermen are alarmed seeing the coastal security force in international waters beyond 12 nautical miles. The uniforms of coastal security force need to be changed so that they can be easily recognized. The present uniform is not suitable to function at sea.
The committee set up to review the pay structure of the police department in various other states has submitted the report. The report highlights that other states are paying more salary and perks to the police personnel. The pay commission has submitted a proposal on the hike in salaries and perks of the police personnel and the proposal will be effectively implemented.
Promoting 11,000 police personnel is a historic decision. A second division clerk who joins the service in the revenue department retires as a deputy tahsildar while in the police department a police constable retires as the head constable or an assistant sub-inspector. The time bound of 22 years for promotions had demoralised the police personnel. The government has taken a historic decision where a police constable who enters into service will retire as either a sub-inspector or even inspector.
The police department was facing a severe shortage of manpower; the government of Karnataka has filled in 16,000 police constable post out of the 25000 vacant posts. 1000 applicants who have applied for the police sub-inspector post are waiting for the test and interview. The women police stations need to have women police staff, the department is witnessing an increase in women applicants for the police department.
The government is with the police, the police should function with honesty and discipline, the government cannot tolerate indiscipline in the department. The government has constructed 11000 staff quarters to the police and in the coming days, more quarters will be constructed. The allowance of rupees 2000 will be credited to the bank accounts of police personnel as the issues with the finance department have been solved. Payments of allowances will be processed effectively.
The district women police station is shifted from Kundapur to Udupi, a report will be sought in this regard and a women police station will be set up in Kundapur.
