As we step into the second month of 2005, we would like to introduce to you, another Mangalorean personality who spreads love, goodwill and has shaped the lives of many youngsters in the past and now continues to be of immense source of inspiration to the community.

Marjorie is a versatile and multi-faceted personality having made valuable contributions to the society by being actively involved in many organizations. She was the recipient of several awards and has achieved in her life time what most can merely aspire to in ten life spans. A self made person, her hallmark is originality, humour and wit, be it in thoughts or actions. She is a very amiable person and this affable nature has made her a very popular person in the Mangalorean Community. She is presently The President of the Parent Teacher`s Association, Vice President of the Christian Planter`s Guild, Chairperson of Occasional Awareness Committee for the Rotary Club of Mangalore, Executive Committee Member of Agnesian Association and an active member of several Social and Service Organizations.

Marjorie has been blessed with many talents right from her childhood days. Her academic brilliance, profound knowledge, affable nature and competence have enabled her to hold and accomplish the following coveted posts and office.

Her Achievements:
• Secured Second Rank in P.U.C. in 1977 in Karnataka State
• President of St. Agnes College Students Union in 1980.
• Awarded Second Best N.C.C Cadet at All India Level in 1976.
• Awarded Best N.C.C. Cadet of Karnataka in 1975.
• Captain of Mysore University Ball Badminton Team in 1981.
• Captain of Mysore University Volley Ball Team in 1981.
• Visited U.S.A. in 1986 as a member of Rotary Group Study Exchange Team.
• International Professional “Woman of the Year 2002 “ by the Institute of Biographical Society, U.S.A.

Marjorie Aranha Texeira fondly known as Majji hails from Kadri Mangalore – born on the 24th of July 1960 to late Joseph and Tressy Aranha – a well known family in Mangalore. Marjorie is 2nd among her 3 siblings. They are”: late Merwin Aranha, Marisa and Melrick.

Marjorie`s mother Tressy hails from Bijay. She was a teacher at Roshni Nilaya Kindergarten School for almost 2 decades. Her father, late Joseph comes from the well known Aranha family of Kadri. Having served as an Air force Officer in Karachi for many years, he settled down in the ancestral house at Kadri, Mangalore managing the vast properties the family owned. He plunged into politics with the idea of serving the people and rendered yeoman service to the Mangalore City Corporation as a Corporator for over 20 years. During this period he was the Chairman of the Taxation Committee for 2 terms. He was the pillar of strength to the Parish Council of Bendur Church and was elected as the Vice President and held the post for over 10 years. Being a person of well profound knowledge of law and matter he was the Director of MCC Bank for almost 17 years and for a short period also took over the reins of the Bank as its Chairman.

Little Marjorie schooled at St. Agnes and continued her education in St. Agnes College and thereafter continued her studies and did her M.Com. She began her career as a Bank Officer in 1982 with Karnataka Bank and was elevated to the post of Branch Manager in 1987 and later rose to the position of Senior Manager of Karnataka Bank. She then joined HDFC Bank in 2000 as Branch Head and worked for 2 years. An accomplished young woman excelling in different fields like sports, dramatics, oratory and music – She married IVAN TEXEIRA a handsome, young Coffee Planter and Granite Exporter and together set out to carve a niche for themselves in the community and presently lives at Kadri close to her parental house.

Marjorie is a self made person, a very proficient orator, a compere par excellence and a sought after personality for many events in Mangalore. Marjorie is a positive person and her famous quote in her trying times has been: “Opportunities come only once, never miss them”.

Her mission in life is to guide the women to have a career.

If you could meet only one person in history who would it be and why?
Nelson Mandela, for his perseverance and endurance.

Can you recall any special incident in your life that has given real joy and happiness and made you feel content?
The day I was appointed Manager of the Karnataka Bank. Moreover I was the only lady Manager of the Bank for over a decade.

Give us a brief description about your youth life and guidance you have given to various associations?
I was the President of various organizations like: C.Y.M. AICUF, CLC. I developed my leadership qualities in these associations. As part of the church activities I spent considerable time with fellow youngsters in church. These exposures moulded me.
What are your current activities and what do you plan to do in the future? ( any plans for the enlistment and growth of youngsters etc.,?)

Presently I run my own business. I own an Immigration and Study Abroad Consultancy named CANAM and a Career Guidance Centre named CREST CAREERS. Besides I own a holiday resort named TEX WOODS (www.texresorts.com). I have a partnership firm called `THE PERFECT TOUCH` which provides various services to NRI`s (www.perfecttouchmlr.com). All these keep me occupied.

I have taken up oratory classes for youngsters. In future I plan to organize summer camps for the youth and also help youngsters to choose their careers.

How do you utilise and spend your leisure time? Any special activities?
I’m involved with various organizations – social and cultural. I do a lot of social service and help young people by guiding them about future prospects. I also devote time to my two sons who are schooling.

What is your message to our Mangalorean.com readers?
Mangloreans are some of the most talented people in the world. But they need to come out of their shell and expose their hidden talent. They need to compete with the best. We try to strive for perfection but the goal should be excellence.
