On Your Mark-Get-Set-Run! FMMC 5Km Run for ‘Cansurvive‘ Cause
Mangaluru: Taking on a running challenge is a fantastic way not only to fundraise but you’ll also be promoting better health and bring awareness about a disease. After all, exercise and keeping healthy are two of the best things you can do to keep your ticker ticking on! Whether you’re planning on holding your own event, doing a 5km challenge, building your way up to doing a 10km race or really testing yourself in a marathon, you can make fundraising easy by doing it for better health, and also bringing awareness among the public about various diseases like Cancer, Diabetes, Heart Attacks, and other illness.
‘Run for a Cause 5K’-a nearly 5km run was organized with a aim to create an awareness about Cancer and also to raise funds for the ‘Cansurvive Campaign’. Being a lazy Sunday while many were still in bed, some snoring, some cuddling with their sweethearts on the bed- but a few hundreds of energetic young and old men and women of Mangaluru and beyond woke to the alarm set, to be in time to join in the Run for a Cause-5K organized by the staff and students of Fr Muller Medical College Hospital as part of the Cansurvive Campaign.
The Run was flagged off by Olympian Vandana Rao along with MLA Moideen Bava, Paralympian Sharath Gayakwad, MLA Moideen Bava, Eight times Guinness World Record holder in Marathon-Rakshith Shetty and Four times International Sprint medals winner Ln Panna Prasad. The Run/Walk that commenced from FMMC sports ground proceeded through Kankanady Pumpwell, Bendore-well, Balmatta, Hampankatta, Falnir Road, and culminated back at the start point ground. Throughout the Run/Walk proper arrangements were made by the organizers, including police security. Even the kids from St Joseph Ashram.
It was indeed a Run for a Good Cause- and every drop of sweat from the participants counted. Completing a Run is a great achievement for anybody. However, the possibility of changing somebody’s life being added to every step in your run can give you a sense of pride like no other. These hundreds of young men and women who took part in the “Run ” did make a difference. They believed and became the change that they wanted to see. They all choose to run with a purpose. They inspired their friends, family, and others like themselves to join in the Run, and help raise funds and reach their target. For some runners it was quite hectic and tiresome to cover the entire distance by running-so many chose their gears from -Running to Jogging-to Walking, but they all made it to the end point, bubbling with enthusiasm, and pride-that they ran for a good cause.
It was indeed nice to note that MLA Moideen Bava did make it to the finish line, after a hectic walk run and walk. Among the winners in various categories, was Rakshith Shetty who kept a lead right from the start point till the end, to bag the first place comprising of Rs 3000 cash, and to and fro domestic air travel ticket on Jet Airways. Everyone who took part in the Run received a Certificate of participation and healthy breakfast.
The fun for this Cansurvive Campaign doesn’t end here- because there is still one more fundraising event under the dedicated and committed leadership of Dr Wanmancy where she is looking forward for your unstinted support and encouragement in order to make this Campaign a grand success.
