MASH Makes Breaks Ground on Phase 2 of Asia’s Largest Carbon Removal Facility in Udupi District
Udupi: MASH Makes, a pioneering biochar and biofuels enterprise, hosted a momentous groundbreaking ceremony for Phase 2 of its state-of-the-art carbon removal facility in Udupi District. The event was graced by an esteemed lineup of dignitaries, marking another milestone in the company’s commitment to sustainability and community development.
Already home to Asia’s largest carbon removal plant, MASH Makes’s facility in Udupi District is set to double its capacity with the Phase 2 expansion, further solidifying its leadership in climate solutions and sustainable agriculture.

In his address, Mr. Rohit Nagargoje of MASH Makes emphasized the impact the company has made over the past year:
• Hundreds of farmers across India have benefitted from the biochar produced at the facility, achieving upto 30% increase in crop yields.
• The Phase 2 expansion will double the current workforce of 20 full-time employees from the district, creating significant opportunities for locals.
• Hundreds of indirect jobs in construction, logistics, maintenance, catering, and hospitality will further boost the region’s economy.

The groundbreaking ceremony saw the dignitaries symbolically dig fresh soil, marking the commencement of Phase 2 construction.

During the event, guests toured the world-class biochar production facility, led by Mr. Dushyanth Reddy, EHS(Environmental Health and Safety) Manager at the plant. Following this, they participated in the ceremonial groundbreaking, symbolizing the next chapter of growth for MASH Makes.
The Honorable MLA Shri Suvarna ji delivered a rousing speech, commending the company for choosing Udupi District as the site for its landmark facility. He highlighted the transformative impact of Danish investment in creating employment and fostering industrial growth in the region.
Mr. Eske Rosenberg from the Embassy of Denmark lauded MASH Makes as a shining example of the Indo-Danish Strategic Partnership, emphasizing its role in the Green Fuels Alliance India. He praised the company’s dual contributions to sustainable agriculture through biochar and reducing fossil fuel dependence through biofuels, calling it the “poster child of successful Indo-Danish collaboration.”
Shri Mithun HN from the Coastal Police spoke passionately about the pressing need to address climate change and applauded MASH Makes’s efforts to scale carbon removal solutions, positioning the company as a key player in the fight against global warming.
Dr. Madhav Kamath also praised MASH Makes for paving the way for industrial growth in Udupi District. He underscored the importance of biochar in improving soil health, reducing chemical fertilizer usage, conserving water, and boosting agricultural productivity.
