Mass Prayers Suspended during Shab-e-Barat and Good Friday in District – DC Jagadeesh

Udupi: “Mass prayers have been totally suspended in Udupi district during the occasion of Shab-e-Barat and Good Friday on April 9 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Muslim and Christian community should co-operate with the district administration”, said G Jagadeesh deputy commissioner of Udupi district. He was speaking after chairing the peace committee meeting at the SP office on Tuesday, April 7.

After the lockdown, both communities are fully supporting the district administration.

During the peace committee meeting, DC Jagadeesh said, “I would like to congratulate the Muslim and Christian community for their co-operation. Our Christian community brothers have suspended all the mass prayers even before the request of district administration. We are grateful to them for their support. Section 144 was imposed across the district not to allow any congregational prayers in the Mosques or Churches. We will request both the communities to pray in their respective homes maintaining social distance during the Shab-e-Barat and Good Friday”.

Fr George D’Souza Representative of the Christian Community said, “Our Udupi Diocese bishop has already given orders to the Christian community and suspended mass prayers and gatherings during the Holy Week celebrations in the churches. In the view of preventing the spread of the virus and in the interest of public health and safety, that needs to be strictly adhered to by all, our community is doing the same”.

Muslim community members also shared their views and extended full support to the district administration.

Udupi SP Vishnuvardhan, ASP Kumarchandra, DySP’s Jaishanker, Hariram Shanker, Subhash Reddy, and others were present.
