Mathru Poorna Scheme will not be Stopped in Karnataka – Minister Jayamala

Udupi: “There is no any proposal before the government to drop the Mathru Poorna scheme in the state. The “Mathru Poorna” scheme has received a very good response in all 26 districts of the state except in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Ramanagara and Kodagu”, said Minister for Women and Child Development, Empowerment of Differently Abled and Senior Citizens along with Kannada and Culture Jayamala.

She was speaking to the mediapersons at the inspection Bangalow Udupi on Sunday, August 5 during her first visit after being appointed as district minister in-charge.

“No one can stop the Matru Poorna scheme in the state. In this scheme, the Union government is spending Rs 1,800 and the state government ₹ 8,000 per month for pregnant and lactating women”.

“Many rural women are suffering from malnutrition in the state. Food will be provided for 15 months from the start of pregnancy up to six months after the delivery. A full meal, consisting of rice, dal with vegetables/sambar, one boiled egg and 200 ml of milk, will be given to pregnant women. Those who don’t eat eggs will be given two varieties of sprouts.”

“This meal will meet 40-45% of the daily calories, protein and calcium requirement per day of the pregnant and lactating women. The scheme will be implemented through the Anganwadis in the State. Each meal is estimated to cost around Rs 21. Food will be provided for 15 months, from the start of pregnancy to six months after delivery.”

“I am from the Coastal district and I have not asked for the minister’s post. My Party has given me a chance to serve the state. As the minister in-charge of Udupi district, I will make all efforts to deliver the governments plans to the people,” she said.

“In the Udupi district, all five legislative assemblies are won by BJP. All the five legislators are also responsible for the development of the district. When all of us work together, only then will our district progress,” she said.

Speaking about the law and order in the district and the death of Shiroor Swamiji the minister said, “All the cases are under investigation and police will look into the matter”.

Earlier the minister visited Sri Krishna Math and later a meeting was held with the Congress leaders at the District Congress Bhavan.
