“Togetherness and Happiness is a process and not a destination. Love like you have been hurt. Receive every blessing with grateful thanks and count your fortunes with a grateful heart”. Happiness was evidenced like the daily sunshine in Max and Jessie Rasquinha’s 53 years of happy married life – and they are blessed with two sons, Maximillon and Allen, and now also having a grandson, Luke, life for Rasquinha’s has been filled with additional joy and enthusiasm- and they are grateful to God for all the blessings bestowed upon them throughout their lives.

53 Years ago, when Max and Jessie Rasquinha tied the knot in Holy matrimony, they proclaimed the vows saying,”I, Jessie/Max, take you, Max/Jessie, to be my lawfully wedded (husband/wife), to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part. and 53 years later, they have kept their promises/vows to be lawful and devoted to each other husband and wife. And to celebrate their success of 53 years of happily married life, a ‘Thanksgiving” Get-Together, with the unveiling of “A surprise Gift of Life” ( a two-volume book named ” I’ll Cry Tomorrow” comprising of the precious ‘Memoirs’ of Max’s dedication to life of 77 years in six countries and 7 cities was released ) in commemoration of their 53rd Wedding Anniversary which was held on 22 October 2016 at Fatima Retreat House Church/Hall.

The Liturgical services were held at Fatima Retreat House church, Mangaluru with the main celebrant the Bishop of Mangaluru, Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, along with a bevy of many other clergy. Following the mass, a celebration was held at Fatima Retreat House basement hall, where a prayer dance “Ye Rachnara” by Suraj and his troupe kick started the programme. MC Eddie Sequeira welcomed the gathering, followed by Max Rasquinha with his opening remarks, and raising the toast of his and his wife’s 53 years of happy married life, and then cutting the celebration cake. As part of the entertainment for the occasion, Meena and Vishwas Rebimbus sang “Dev Boro Dees Divndi”, followed by “Burgyapona”- a live singing and dance performance by Munita Rao and troupe.

A solo number “Shirigana Shirigana” by Master Roger Rebimbus; “Mujem Kaliz Mogar Podlam” a live singing/dance by Babita Pinto and group enthralled the guests. Also during this joyous occasion, “Outstanding Community Leaders for 2015-2016” were presented sponsored by International Orientation Centre and International Institute for Public Policy. Max Rasquinha conducted the introduction of Awards and recipients, and during the Awards Ceremony, a final song “I Have A Dream” by Fr Denzil Lobo with background song “Hanv Sopnetha” was quite befitting. The Outstanding Community Leaders” recipients were- Fr Denzil Lobo Sj, Sachita Nandagopal, Fr Pradeep Sequeira, and Joe Gonsalves.

The occasion also featured Konkani Music session, namely “Kain Sobith Monglura” by Ivan Sequeira; “Mujem Kazaar” by Claud D’Souza; “Chili Pili Suknyano” by Babita D’Sa; and other popular songs and dance numbers. “Everyone is blessed with special gifts from God, but the question arises how many can accept the gifts and share the happiness with many others”- yes, and Max Rasquinha surprised most of the guests with ‘Surprise Gifts” that he specially brought from the USA. Among the close friends that graced Rasquinha’s wedding Anniversary, were their special friends Mr and Mrs Anand Gupta and family from Mumbai who shared in their happy occasion.

Speaking about his two-volume book “I’ll Cry Tomorrow”- the precious ‘memoirs’ of his dedication to life of 77 years in six countries and seven cities, Max Rasquinha told Team Mangalorean “The best gift that I have enjoyed in my life is my marriage with my dear wife, Jessica, through whose partnership I have survived and prospered successfully and happily for 52 years. Our two sons have also been a true blessing for us. Now that we have our grandson, Luke, life has filled with additional joy and enthusiasm. I remain grateful to God for all the blessings bestowed upon me throughout my life. Today is a day to rejoice, and tomorrow is a new day to decide how best I can accept my new challenges in life”.

“Life has never been an idle dream for me. It has been a solemnity added with reality through the shared blessings that I have enjoyed through God’s infinite mercy. Dedication towards life has no doubt been filled with series of challenges that have created a multitude of reflections in my life. I have always tried to control my emotions, wherever and whenever possible with the hope of compromising them and accepting all the challenges with a smile. I have comforted with the fact that tomorrow will bring greater success in life, and tomorrow will be a better day for all of us. We must live in a positive world. My life has been a “Success Story”, that I can describe fittingly through the highlights of my life in my biography/book. I am totally committed to saying a sincere “Thank You” to all those who have helped me and guided me. I am willing to give my very best for the remainder of my life.” added Max Rasquinha.

In conclusion, Team Mangalorean wishes our ardent reader and supporter of Mangalorean.com, Max Rasquinha and his wife, Jessica a happy wedded life, and may the Lord bless you both and take care of you, May the Lord be kind and gracious to you, May the Lord look on you with favour and give you peace. I end this column with a thought-provoking quote – “The blessings of God not reserved only for the rich, the beautiful and the powerful. God knows to take care of everyone because everyone is created and loved by God. We are all God’s Children. That’s why we belong to a lovely World”. Long Live Max and Jessie Rasquinha!
