MaxFacs Skills Centre at MCODS and ‘Marena’ Outdoor Sports Facility of MAHE Launched
MaxFacs Skills Centre at Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangalore {MCODS} and ‘Marena’ Outdoor Sports Facility-Kaprigudda-Mangaluru of Manipal Academy of Higher Education {MAH} Launched
Mangaluru: MaxFacs Skills Centre { a Dental Extraction and Local Anaesthesia Simulation Centre} at Manipal College Of Dental Sciences, Mangaluru and ‘Marena’ Outdoor Sports Facility of KMC were launched on the same evening of 8 May 2018. MaxFacs Skills Centre (Dental Extraction and Local Anaesthesia simulation centre) at Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangaluru inaugurated by Dr.H.S.Ballal, Pro-Chancellor, Manipal Academy of Higher Education on 8th May 2018 at 6.30 p.m. at Attavar Campus.
This Centre which is first of its kind in any Dental college in the country with advanced digital tools and mannequins aiming to craft dental extraction skills and surgical skills of undergraduates and Postgraduate students, is yet another feather in the cap of Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangaluru which is well known for having telescopic vision in the field of curriculum innovation. Facilities available in the skills centre include life-size mannequins for hands-on training in dental extraction, parenteral injection techniques and basic and advanced life support.
“MaxFacs Skills centre is a SMILE Project of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, which not only aims to improve the competency of the trainees but also has a social cause of improving patient safety by reducing the risk of medical errors during treatment. Currently, Simulation-based training is a breakthrough, compliant with the best educational standards and ethical principles in the process of surgical training giving utmost importance to patient safety.” said Dr Dilip .G.Naik, Dean, Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangaluru, while addressing the gathering. Dr Premalatha Shetty Co-Ordinator MaxFacs Skills Centre and Associate Dean Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangaluru also gave a brief description of this Centre and its benefits to dental students.
In his inaugural address, Dr H S Ballal said, “I am proud of this great achievement at Manipal College of Dental Sciences by starting this MaxFacs Skills Centre which will enable the Undergraduate and PG dental students to use advanced digital tools and mannequins thereby aiming to craft dental extraction skills and surgical skills. My sincere compliments to the College Dean Dr Dilip Nayak and also Dr Premalatha Shetty Co-Ordinator MaxFacs Skills Centre and Associate Dean of this college. If you need any assistance from Manipal Academy of Higher Education I am ready to oblige. This center will provide the full simulation of the clinical environment to our dental students so they will have a great opportunity to experience the best and most effective training experience available in the dental education. I have my utmost belief that this MaxFac Skills Center will enhance dental students’ learning experience for the improvement of the study in the field of oral health sciences. Dr Surendra Shetty, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr Poornima Baliga, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Health Sciences), Dr Venkatraya Prabhu, Dean, KMC, Mangalore, Dr Anand Venugopal, Medical Superintendent, KMC Hospitals Mangaluru also graced the occasion. ‘Marena’ Outdoor Sports Facility-Kaprigudda-Mangaluru of Manipal Academy of Higher Education {MAHE} Launched
As they say, “Friendships born on the field of athletic strife are the real gold of competition. Awards become corroded, but friends gather no dust”. And for that matter, a huge audience had gathered where the new “MARENA” Outdoor Sports Facility was inaugurated on 8th May 2018, at 7 PM at the Kaprigudda ‘Marena Greens’, Mangaluru, by Dr H S Ballal-Pro-Chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, along with Pro Vice-Chancellor (MAHE Mangaluru)-Dr. V Surendra Shetty; Dean of KMC Mangaluru-Dr. MV Prabhu; Dean of MCODS Mangaluru-, Dr Dilip Naik; Dr Poornima Baliga, Pro Vice-Chancellor ( Health Sciences); and Dr Anand Venugopal, Medical Superintendent, KMC Hospitals Mangaluru, among others.
Added to the already existing “MARENA” Indoor Stadium at Kapprigudda-Mangaluru, now the KMC students can make use of the Outdoor Stadium named “Marena Greens”, where they can play Football, Basketball, Tennis, Badminton, Volleyball, and many other outdoor games. Marena which is widely known as is arguably one of India’s best indoor games and sports complex and gymnasium, this outdoor Sports facility will add more name and fame. The individual areas designated for these games are all well maintained, state of the art and excellently equipped. While many students are using the indoor sports facility at Marena, where the building itself is truly awe-inspiring and the sight of so many people young and old working out, and now with the introduction of Outdoor Sports facility they can still work out in very natural atmospheric surroundings.
Addressing the gathering, Dr V Surendra Shetty said, “This unique outdoor sports facility is indeed a dream come true, which we have been wanting for long. On a nearly 4 acres land, which at the moment could fetch crores of money, but we had this land long ago we wanted to make good use of it for our students. We are thankful to Dr H S Ballal for approving this project, and he has been our supporter in all our projects since he is very much attached to Mangaluru campus. Now that the sporting facility is ready, I urge the students to avail all the sporting facilities offered there. I am proud that this state of the art project under the aegis of the silver jubilee celebrations of MAHE-Mangaluru campus is finally launched, which reflects our strong commitment to track and field and to the overall development of our students and faculty”
In His inaugural address, Dr H S Ballal said, ” Me and my wife are glad to be here for this unique celebration where a magnificent outdoor sports facility is inaugurated, and I am thrilled to see the excitement and enthusiasm among the students and faculty already engaged in various sporting activities. Students should not only be bookworms instead also take up co-curricular activities including sports, which will make you healthy and develop a good physique. And like Dr Surendra Shetty has mentioned of needing a swimming pool, if we get a small land I will see that the swimming pool project is approved. Now that a nice and state of the art outdoor sports facility is being provided by MAHE, it is the duty of the students and college faculty to avail all the facilities suitable to them. Have some great sporting fun on Marena Greens”.
