Mayor has Created Artificial Water Crisis in City – Opposition leader Premanand

Mangaluru: The BJP members from Mangaluru South and North constituency staged a protest in front of the MCC on April 12, against the Mayor for failing to provide uninterrupted water supply to the people of the city.

The protesters marched in a procession from PVS circle and Surtakal which culminated in front of the Mangaluru City Corporation.

Addressing the protesters, Corporator Premanand said, “There is no shortage of water in the Thumbay dam, but the Mayor is rationing the water. People of the city are facing severe water crisis and the Mayor is not ready to supply continues water to the people. Mayor Kavitha has created an artificial water crisis for the people.”

Premanand further said, When BJP was in power our aim was to provide water to the people without interruption. But now the congress government after coming to power has not fulfilled any of the promises. Without taking the council members into confidence, the Mayor has taken the decision on rationing the water. When there is enough water in the Thumbay dam, the rationing system of water should be stopped.”

Addressing the protesters Vedavyas Kamath said, “When Harinath was the Mayor he said there is full water in the Thumbay dam which is enough for 90 days, but when Harinath’s tenure was over and Kavitha become the Mayor, she said there is no water in the dam. Whom should we believe, Harinath or Kavitha? Even the tax on garbage has been increased. For a 150 sqft shop, the shop owner has to pay garbage tax of Rs 20,000. In the coming days, if the garbage tax will not be withdrawn, we will join with the vendors and stage a protest. BJP will do justice with the vendors”, he warned.

BJP leaders Nagaraj Shetty, Yogish Bhat, Satyajit Suratkal, Monappa Bhandary, Roopa D Bangera, Ravishanker Mijar, Sumitra Kariya, Capt Brijesh Chowta and others were also present.
