Mayor Kavitha Lifts 100 Kilos During Powerlifting Inauguration at Town Hall

Mangaluru: The Iron Games Promoters in association with Karnataka Powerlifting Association jointly organized the XXXXIII Men and XXXV Women State-level Senior Powerlifting Championship at the Town Hall here on June 10.

The programme began with an invocation. Member of Karnataka Powerlifting Association Jayaram welcomed the gathering. The programme was inaugurated by Ananthamurthy Rao (son of the Former President of Balanjaneya Powerlifting) along with Mayor Kavitha Sanil and other dignitaries on the dais.

Mayor Kavitha Sanil lifted 100 kilos weight and declared the Senior Powerlifting Championship open. Addressing the gathering Mayor Kavitha said, “Powerlifting and others sports have not been given importance like cricket. Powerlifters are spending from their pockets if they want to contest in the state, national level or any other competitions. The government should support the powerlifters and also other athletes.”

Mayor Kavitha further said, “Powerlifting is one of the famous sport but is not included in the Olympics. Powerlifting should be included in the Olympics as soon as possible and the government should take special interest in promoting powerlifting like cricket. Those powerlifters who take part in competitions should get financial support from the government.”

Chairman of Karnataka state powerlifting association A Sadananda Shetty also spoke on the occasion.

State Powerlifting Association secretary, Satish Kumar Kudroli Honorary President of Iron Games Promoters Tejomaya, former power lifter Essa Patel, Tulasidas Kulur, and others were also present.

Good for her. I know that she has been at the receiving end of many reports pointing out illegal displays and failing infrastructure. But, we should also appreciate her willingness to take this all in good spirit and try to do the right thing.
