Mayor Kavitha misused power by filing 307 case against Poor woman – Ganesh Hosabettu

Mangaluru: “The Mayor’s post is very respectful one and we respect the Mayor even during the council meetings. Most of the Mayors in the past have performed their duties well. But Mayor Kavitha Sanil has brought shame to the MCC by assaulting a poor woman. Kavitha should resign, if she will not resign we will intensify our protest in the coming days”, said former Mayor Ganesh Hosabettu in a press meet held at the BJP office here on October 31.

Addressing the mediapersons Ganesh Hosabettu said, “Kavitha Sanil is not fit to be the Mayor and she should resign from her post. Even today during the council meeting when we were demanding the Mayor’s resignation, she wept, which proves that she had assaulted the poor watchman’s wife and child. Also in the council meeting swearing by Goddess Kateleshwari Mayor Kavitha said she did not touch the watchman’s wife. On October 27, Mayor Kavitha filed an attempt to murder case under section 307 on the watchman’s wife Kamala which shows that the Mayor is misusing her power.”

When asked if their own child was chased by the watchman’s wife what was their reaction, Ganesh Hosabettu said, “We would have questioned the person but would not have assaulted. But the Mayor has misused her power and assaulted the watchman’s wife Kamala and her child.”

When asked on why the BJP was interfering in the personal matter of the Mayor, Corporator Roopa D Bangera said, “On October 26, the neighbours heard the sound that someone was thrashing the watchman’s wife and they informed us. When we received the call we were in a programme and immediately myself and Pooja Pai rushed to Sagar Pulemar Residency. When we met the watchman he was sad, when we asked him what happened and expressed our intention to help, he briefed us and asked his wife Kamala to explain. When we came to know that Mayor Kavitha Sanil had assaulted her, we were shocked. We waited for more than 20 minutes for the Mayor to ask about the incident but she did not come and we came to know that she had gone out with her family. When any woman is in trouble, we the members of Mahila Morcha are ready to help them.”

When asked whether the BJP Mahila Morcha along with the watchman’s wife Kamala will go to Kateel Temple to swear in front of the Goddess about the assault, Ganesh Hosabettu said, “We have not said that we will go to Kateel, since she has said it, let she go.”

Roopa D Bangera also said, “A short while ago, we heard that the watchman has been terminated from the Sagar Pulemar Residency. When we earlier asked the watchman, why they did not file any case against the Mayor, the watchman said that they are very poor and do not have money to file a case against powerful people. Now we do not know where the watchman and his family has gone?”
