Mangaluru: Mayor Kavitha Sanil visited the flood affected Jyothi circle to study the situation after it was flooded during the rains on June 5 and later inspected the Bakimaru Gadde Jappinamogeru area here on June 6.
Speaking to mangalorean.com Mayor Kavitha said, “On June 5 when the Jyothi Circle area was flooded, I received a call at around 6:00 pm and immediately rushed to the spot. I arranged for the JCB’s to be brought to clear the water. I was present at the spot until the water was cleared at 12 midnight. When the workers were clearing the blockages in the drains, they found a number of water bottles restricting the flow of water. In the coming days, we will find a permanent solution for this problem.”
Mayor Kavitha further said, “It is the duty of the corporator to come and check the spot and inform the concerned authorities to clear the water. When I received the call from the locals I immediately visited the spot and saw that the water was cleared.”
Later Kavitha visited the house of S Monteiro affected by artificial flooding at Bakimaru Gadde in Jappinamogeru. Speaking to mangalorean.com Monteiro said, “We are residing in this house from past 12 years. Since our neighbour started to construct a house adjacent to our house we are facing severe problems of water flooding our house whenever there is rain. Our neighbour has blocked the rain water drain during the construction of his house. Now the water is gushing to our house. Yesterday from 5:00 pm, we have been taking shelter in our relatives house as our house is filled with water. We informed the Mayor about the situation we are facing and she has come here to help us. We request the Mayor to clear the rain water drain so that the rain water will flow freely.”
Mayor Kavitha Sanil immediately informed the corporator and advised the concerned officers to send the standby gang to assist and clear the blockage.”
