Mayor Kavitha Takes Precautionary Measures to Avoid Water Scarcity in Mangaluru

Mangaluru: As a precautionary measure to avoid water scarcity in the city, the Mangalore City Corporation has set timings for the supply of water during alternate days. At present in Thumbay dam, we have water which is enough for 20 days, and in the AMR dam, there is sufficient water for 40 days. If there is enough rain in the coming days, we will withdraw the set timings for the distribution of water”, said the Mayor of MCC Kavitha Sanil in a press meet held at her chamber here on March 16.

Addressing the mediapersons Kavitha Sanil said, “Last year Mangaluru city faced severe water crisis but this year we have taken all the necessary measures to prevent the shortage of water. Now the inflow of water to the Thumbay dam has completely stopped and we need to take precautionary measures in this regard.”

From 20th March we have set the following timings for the distribution of water:

From Monday at 6:00 am to Tuesday 6:00 pm and from Thursday 6:00 pm to Saturday 6:00 am no supply of water.

From Tuesday 6:00 pm to Thursday 6:00 pm and from Saturday 6:00 am to Monday 6:00 am water will be released to all the 60 wards.

Mayor Kavitha urged all the citizens of Mangaluru to co-operate with the timings and use the water in a responsible manner. These measures have been taken to provide water to all the citizens of Mangaluru. If there is enough rain and sufficient water is available the order will be withdrawn.

“My priority is to beautify the city and make it world class. From 1 April, we will start removing all the banners in the city. Many times people erect the banners but they do not remove them. We will remove such banners and impose a fine on those responsible. From April 1st all the banners in the city will be removed. Any institutions, temples Churches want to erect their banners or hoardings they should take permission from the MCC and permission will be given for 5 days to erect religious banners. After 5 days the banners should be removed,” she warned.

Deputy Mayor Rajaneesh, MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazir, Former Mayor Harinath, Sashidhar Hegde, Mahabala Marla, Appi and others were also present.
