MBA Demands to file FIR against George in Ganapathi Case
Mangaluru: The members of Mangalore Bar Association (MBA) staged a protest in front of the court premises here, on July 15.
Addressing the protesters, president of the Mangaluru Bar Association Chengappa said, “DySP Ganapathi was an honest police officer. One week prior to committing suicide, Ganapathi met me in the court premises and shared his problems. He also mentioned all the three names and said that he was under pressure from the three and it was not possible to live peacefully. I consoled him, and told him not to worry and that everything would be alright. I did not have any idea that he would end his life so soon.”
Chengappa further said, “In one year, many good officers have committed suicides, many have been forced to resign from their jobs and many other honest officers have been transferred without reason. D K Ravi had also committed suicide due to harassment; in his case too, K J George’s name was mentioned. In Mangaluru, the CEO of ZP Tulasi Maddinini, who was very honest and working with integrity, was transferred for no reason. MCC Commissioner Hepsiba Rani Korlapati, who exposed the scams in MCC, was also transferred. The police in the state had decided to protest by going on leave for a day due to harassment by the government and were not allowed to do so. This shows how the police and government officers have been harassed.”
Chengappa also alleged that so far no justice has been served in all cases that had been handed over to the CID. “The outcome of the CID investigation will be zero in DySP Ganapathi’s case too like all earlier cases.” He further said, “Before committing suicide, Ganapathi had booked a hotel room after inquiring whether there was a fan in the room. Later, he had gone to a local TV channel for an interview and revealed the names of K J George and two police officers.”
“It is the duty of the government to file an FIR as soon as they get the death note. But the government has taken the statement from Ganapathi’s father and brother. His wife Pavana was on her way to Madikeri as soon as she got the news of her husband’s suicide. But the officials did not wait for Pavana. Instead, they lowered the body and the post mortem was done in her absence. I am not saying that K J George should be arrested but I request the government to file an FIR based on the dying declaration and start the investigation. If K J George is found innocent, file a B Report and close the case,” added Chengappa.
Later, the protesters dispersed and attended the court.
